Once again, the White Nights of St. Petersburg International Music Festival is to open its doors, from 10 to 12 July 2014 at the Ice Palace. Since it was first held more than 20 years ago, it has become one of the most eagerly anticipated music events on the calendar, with a following that extends far beyond Russia. After all, the competition has been a springboard for many popular performers from around the world. The event is now Russia's first and only global music festival, and it gives the younger generation a strong awareness of our city and country as a centre of musical culture. Every year, the festival is a real celebration of music where all fans can enjoy performances by stars they never dreamed they would see live: Paula Abdul, Anastacia, Mika, Spandau Ballet, Eros Ramazzotti, a-ha, Whitesnake, Glenn Hughes, Joe Cocker, Steve Vai, Mr. Big, José Carreras, Chris Rea, Status Quo, Brian May (Queen), Julio Iglesias, Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band, Deep Purple, Kevin Costner, Woody Allen, The Jacksons, Nelly, Zucchero, Sarah Connor, Earth, Wind & Fire, and many more. Last year the festival reached new heights - being broadcast on Channel One meant that millions of Russians could not only see performances by some of the greatest stars, they could also keep up to date with the intrigues of a fascinating competition and vote for their favourite contestant. This year the festival will have a new format: the organizers are highlighting the now traditionally high level of the concert and the wide-ranging musical programme which is this year dedicated to Russia's musical culture. Russia's most famous and popular performers will make guest appearances, including Elena Vaenga, Grigory Leps, Leonid Agutin, Alexander Marshal, Nyusha, Yurkiss, and Zemlyane. There are other pleasant surprises in store for the audience - the full list of headline acts will be revealed later.
